Highly praised for her warm quality of voice and unique timbre, Larisa Martínez has been delighting audiences through music from a very young age. Born in Puerto Rico, she began her studies as a young teenager at the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico where she studied Piano, Theory and Voice. She later went to the University of Puerto Rico and graduated with high honors with an Environmental Sciences Bachelor’s Degree while continuing undergraduate studies at the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico in Voice Performance.
She made her debut as an opera singer in 2009 performing the Shepherd in Puccini’s Tosca. A year later she performed with great success the role of Luisa Fernanda in the eponymous zarzuela presented at the Centro de Belles Artes by the Puerto Rico Lyric Company. During the year 2012 she received a scholarship to be part of the American Institute of Music Studies (AIMS) summer vocal program in Austria, where she performed the roles of Susanna and Princess Mi conducted by Maestro Gerritz Priessnitz in concert with the AIMS Orchestra. The same year she started voice studies with Beth Roberts at the prestigious Mannes The New School for Music in New York City from where she now holds a Masters in Music degree.
While a member of the Mannes Opera Young Artist Program, Ms. Martinez performed the key role of Corinna from Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims under the baton of Maestro Joseph Colaneri. Fred Cohen from Opera Newswrote: “An unequivocal Rossinian promise...Ms. Martínez cut an elegant figure, the grace of her stage deportment matching that of her singing."
Ms. Martínez also appeared with great success as Musetta in Loft Opera’s critically acclaimed production of La Bohème in 2014. “As Musetta, Larisa Martinez is delightful, embodying every nuance of that infamously charismatic character. Most recently, she appeared as the soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No.4. with the PR Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maximiano Valdés. Other roles performed by Ms. Martínez are: Manon with Classic Lyric Arts France, Giulietta from I Capuleti e i Montecchi with the Mannes Opera directed by Ted Taylor and Barbarina from Le Nozze di Fígaro with Loft Opera in New York. She can also be seen collaborating with Grammy Award winning violinist Joshua Bell, on the Christmas’ Special Joshua Bell and Friends online through Medici TV.
Ms. Martínez currently resides in New York City where she studies with Anthony Laciura and Lucy Arner.
