BARE OPERA ANNOUNCES SECOND PRODUCTION
FEATURING GRANADOS’S GOYESCAS AND BUSHWICK DANCE PARTY
Performance Highlights Dance with Unique Choreographed Work to Albeniz’s Suite española
Newly Appointed Principal Conductor Sesto Quatrini Leads All 6 Performances
(September, 1, 2015; New York, NY)--Bare Opera announces its second production, a hybrid event that combines dance and opera. Jonathan Warman directs Enrique Granados’s rarely performed opera, Goyescas, set in 1980s Madrid. Choreographer Liz Piccoli weaves dance throughout Goyescas, as well as a stand-alone first act set to a selection from Albeniz’s Suite española No. 1 Op. 47 orchestrated for chamber orchestra.
The first performance of each weekend is followed by a dance party, allowing the audience to share in the experience and spirit of the performance. Warman will DJ a playlist that transitions from the flamenco influences of Granados to something that might be heard in a Brooklyn club today. All performances will take place in the Bushwick coworking art space, Bat Haus.
Emerging Brooklyn fashion designer Laura Kung lends her artistic eye to the costumes, drawing on inspiration from the brush strokes of Goya and the punk street fashions of 1980s Madrid.
Bare Opera’s newly appointed principal conductor and protégé of Fabio Luisi, Sesto Quatrini will lead all six performances at Brooklyn’s Bat Haus. For more information about his appointment, please see his press release.
Coming off of Bare Opera’s sold out first presentation of L’enfant Prodigue / L'enfant et les sortilèges, General Director Min Lew mentioned, “We are incredibly excited about this production. It brings a seldom-performed work to a new and intimate space in Brooklyn and offers the audience a chance to not only see opera in a new light, but get up and dance with it.”
